Unfortunately, we will need an SEO solution in place before we go live.
I doubt it is an environment thing because we are using a well known hosting provider with dev, test, live parity between environments. We have it under basic auth right now, but removing basic auth and testing on the live environment still shows no tags.
It is most likely some problem with Polylang, disabling that plugin brings the tags back. That plugin is integral to our needs though.

There’s a page about this on possible conflicts with multilingual plugins, but our particular issue is not addressed:
