Okay I tried the above and it is still showing twentyseventeen as the active theme from a visitor’s point of view.
I installed the health check plugin, and unless I am doing something wrong, it is not giving me any notices of something being wrong.

Steve, I went to appearance > theme > add new > install > activate > publish
I then deleted the other themes, so the only theme in my theme section is the one I am using currently.
