I have given up on the feature, it is not fit for purpose as evidenced by the countless threads struggling with it.
Sorry for being so grumpy, but the good news is after trying lots of different text expansion plug ins I have found Collapse o matic. Excellent plug in that does what it says has great documentation and excellent support. It does everything I planned to use the more tag for and more.
For the record the theme was toolbox.
As I mentioned in item 3 I press the update button… I assume this saves the code. The changes do not appear on the page and if I go back the code is not in the html page. If I update and go to the visual editor it is not there either.
I am going to try ultimate-tinymce plugin. This seems to offer a solution. Any comments?
