In reply to: Consistent crashing and site going offline after tag searching. This is overdue, but Boost was actually not the cause! It cut down on the amount of 404s and errors, but didn’t eliminate them. Turns out there was an edit in .htaccess that was preventing my host’s security systems from working correctly. This was fixed days ago, and I haven’t had a crash since.

In reply to: Consistent crashing and site going offline after tag searching.Hi, @threadi. I’ve been working on a private support ticket with my host, and we discovered that the bug was being caused by the Jetpack Boost plug-in. The actual reason behind it is still a mystery, but I’ve been working for a few days with it deactivated, and haven’t had any site outages. I occasionally get the error where entering a new tag causes the tag field to suddenly empty, but when refreshing the page, I haven’t received a 404.
I’ve opened another thread on Boost’s support forums to bring this more attention. I’m unsure if I should mark this thread as resolved yet, since I’m still having partial tag dysfunction, and I obviously can’t use Boost (though I don’t know if that’s a huge loss).

In reply to: Consistent crashing and site going offline after tag searching.Thank you, @threadi!
I will be opening a support ticket with my host later today. I’d like to keep this thread open as a liaison, so I’ll share updates and anything else that could lead to this finally being resolved.
I have used the Site Health tool before, though it hasn’t ever suggested anything that fixes the problem. For example, right now it has three suggestions:
- Outdated Critical CSS (very common, as I’m still constantly making site adjustments at this stage. updated periodically, as automatic is a premium feature of Jetpack.)
- Outdated PHP (recent, as it’s 8.2.29. will be fixing today.)
- Recommended usage of a persistent object cache (been a while since I looked into this, but I believe I have caching, and this is a false positive?)
Unless you have any further input for me to respond to, my next post will contain my host’s response. I’ve tried working through this with them before, but might not have entirely followed through. Whatever the reason, it obviously didn’t end with the issue being solved. Thanks again!

In reply to: Consistent crashing and site going offline after tag searching.Thank you for the replies. It seems I explained my issue poorly, so hopefully this clears it up.
The “tag search” I’m referring to is the one within the post editor. Here’s a cropped screenshot:
When I type something into this field, it runs a search across my tags for matching text. Oftentimes, it fails to return a query, even for tags I know exist. When this happens, the tag box will empty itself of all tags (as if I had highlighted them and pressed backspace), and my site will go offline.
Attempting to save a draft will give errors, I can’t use any search functionality, and all of my pages return a 404. The 404 I initially screenshotted was for a published page; it IS a page that exists, but it, like all pages during this time, has gone offline. I attempted to add tags to it, as described above, received the errors, refreshed the editor, and received a 404.
To clarify, any page during this time returns a 404. I’ve verified this with other visitors—my site completely goes down. It remains in this state for up to five minutes, when everything goes back online. However, I will lose any work since my last autosave, and the same behavior will eventually happen again.
It might be notable that this problem seems to come up for any editor-side queries of my tags. Another place it can happen is in the hyperlink field.
Exactly as with the tag field, at any point while I’m typing into this box, the query is likely to return blank, and my entire site will temporarily go offline.
Does this help explain my issue? I’d be happy to grab any other screenshots or information that could help. I’m so desperate to be done with this.

In reply to: Twenty Twenty-Five: How to decrease the size of YouTube embeds?Thank you, George! Before I mark this as resolved, what is the best way to automate this process? Naturally, selecting YouTube embed, then grouping it, then typing in the dimensions is a bit of a pain. Is creating a custom Pattern with a preconfigured Group size the most convenient solution?
Thank you. I appreciate the assistance, and I will raise my rating accordingly. However, I feel my points about the plug-in’s lack of feedback and the instructions still stand, and those wouldn’t be relevant to a support ticket. If I change my mind or those are addressed, I will happily delete this review or raise it to a full 5 stars.
Bumping for the new week.
Hi Sajal,
This appears to have worked. Thank you very much!
Thank you, Stef. I wish I could reserve the /portfolio/ slug for myself, as it is the most intuitive title. Is there no way to do this? If not, I will create my own as per your suggestion. Thank you!
Hi @bruceallen
Yes, the subscribers are now displaying. Thank you very much!
I only have one more issue. There is a deleted account that was in the listing. I attempted to remove it myself, but nothing seems to work despite repeated attempts. It’s “–purged-account-18024470@wordpress.invalid.” Are you able to remove it on your end?
I appreciate the help.
Hi @bruceallen,
Thank you for responding. First of all, pardon my phrasing. By “Jetpack support”, I meant the documentation that suggests standard fixes. None of the proposed solutions worked for me. This is my first time reaching out to support in any direct capacity, as I had difficulty accessing my WordPress.org account for a time.
In any case, I’m attempting to import seven subscribers. However, I have tried submitting both a .csv file and inputting each email manually. Neither has been successful, so I expect the quantity isn’t the issue. Please let me know what you think. Thank you!- This reply was modified 1 year, 3 months ago by Noah.

In reply to: Mass changing a specific phrase to italics / bold / etc.?Hi Jayson,
Thank you for your response! I’m actually not using Gutenberg. By old text blocks, I mean I’m copying and pasting text I wrote from other sources. Some of these have to be cleaned up, such as italicizing media titles. Right now, I’m just looking for a way to mass italicize titles contained within standard Paragraph blocks. It’s very basic formatting, I think.
Does this give you enough information? Please let me know. Thanks!

In reply to: General issues with image width.Thank you, Patrick. While I haven’t resolved it on my end, I’m relieved to hear that my viewers are at least getting the intended experience. I do have a laptop, which gives me an unusual resolution, but I’m not sure why it would auto-adjust the image when viewing the page yet display it properly if I view a direct link to the image.
I appreciate your advice on themes as well. I initially wanted to try a new theme, but it broke my site because everything was set for the Assembler theme. I may just have to put the work in to manually converting my site. Thank you!

In reply to: General issues with image width. If you’re asking if I’m paying for hosting through wordpress.com, no, not anymore. My site started as that, but I transferred it to my new host (Reclaim Hosting).

In reply to: General issues with image width.Thank you for your detailed response. However, I am still a little confused. The theme I’m using is Assembler, which is the default theme of WordPress.com. I imported it from when I was using their free hosting. It’s a free theme, not a commercial one.
I am new to WordPress, so my understanding of some things may be incorrect. If I go to my themes and select “customize” for my Assembler theme, it takes me to site-editor.php, which I think is standard for WordPress. If themes are the only thing that affect displayed image size, then why am I usually able to change the size by changing block settings? I’m not sure where to go from here, sorry.
Edit: I’ve noticed that when I change the Featured Image block height size, it affects some pages, but not the one I’ve linked in this thread. They are all using the exact same template, so this shouldn’t be the case.
