In reply to: Stripping Youtube CodeSeriously, F*** this. Why can’t there at least be some kind of legacy here??? I get dozens of guest posters a week and inevitably some guy emails me wondering why his video is not in the post. Yeah, they should know better, but you know that’s never going to happen. When I try to edit these posts it still takes me forever to even figure out how to format the ***ing YouTube URL… this is not straightforward, and should never be called a feature. I know I’m not the only one!

In reply to: "Screen Options" settings…well, it seems to be more or less working, though some things sneak back, like “slug” for example. God only knows why. BUt it’s definitely better than before.
One thing that I really need to stick is the bug in wordpress that adds links to images by default. Right now I have to go through posts and remove the image links by hand (what value they serve is beyond me). So I create a fake post, upload an image, remove the “link” option, and it seems to reset things to the “no link” option. But within a day, they’re back. I don’t know if other people’s browsers are not getting the change or if it’s user error… do you know if that option is supposed to work the same way? Or maybe it’s in the user’s browser cookie?

In reply to: "Screen Options" settings…Cool…. so that means, theoretically, if *they* log in later on their computer they should see the settings I created for them. right?
yeah! that would probably solve it! No need to load all those authors unless I”m getting down to that level. i don’t need that… others might, of course.

In reply to: custom length excerpt in one template onlyHi guys – I’m trying to do the same thing… isn’t there a way to do this and avoid messing with functions.php alltogether?
ie – can’t you just say “display first XX words of the excerpt here” and be done with it?

In reply to: Default Problem with Image LinkingLove that idea, problem is, I have to run the site. It’s long passed the point where I’m skilled enough with code to write a plugin, much less one of that complexity. I have *no clue* how to do it so all i can do is either pay someone or hope and pray that something gets noticed on this board. But that’s inevitable with online publishing circa 2011.
There’s no reason that images should be linked to anything unless you’re running a site that’s all about images – ie a photo blog, or something with charts you need to magnify. Even if that’s presumptuous, I’d presume further that most bloggers don’t even know they’re linking images. That means for 99% of users you’re just making them do more work, and it’s much worse if you have a site with dozens of un-technical writers and guest bloggers – it’s inevitable that they accidentally screw it up eventually, and even when you explain it to them it’s in one ear and out the other. *sigh*
