    Doh! Never mind- Learn as I go- Didn’t realize that the “Text” Widget was where we have to place script code now- sure makes it a lot easier now though with hte text widget- I feel like a dummy now for missing this feature- spent too many hours trying out how to insert the code straight into the sidebar.php-doh!

    Resolved.

    I’ve noticed the patch changes the sidebar code from <div> to
    <li (I’ll show the changes below. Would htis be the cause?)

    Tiga theme:

    <?php if (has_dynamic_sidebar(‘Tiga Right Sidebar’)) { ?>
    <ul class=”right-sidebar”>
    <?php dynamic_sidebar(“Tiga Right Sidebar”); ?>

    <?php } else { ?>
    <div class=”right-sidebar”>

    <!– Begin – Search –>
    <div class=”right-widget-title”><?php _te(‘Search’); ?></div>
    <div class=”right-widget”><?php include (TEMPLATEPATH . ‘/searchform.php’); ?></div>
    <!– End – Search –>

    Tiga theme with patch:

    <ul class=”right-sidebar”>
    <?php if ( !function_exists(‘dynamic_sidebar’)
    || !dynamic_sidebar(‘Tiga Right Sidebar’) ) { ?>
    <!– Begin – Search –>
    <li class=”right-widget”>
    <h2 class=”right-widget-title”><?php _te(‘Search’); ?></h2>
    <?php include (TEMPLATEPATH . ‘/searchform.php’); ?>

    <!– End – Search –>

    also- got the blogroll and links issue working with a patch- but now I can’t add in any scripts in the sidebars like statcounter or scripts for sidebar links- ugggh- one problem after another!

    Thread Starter Nazareth

    (@nazareth)

    I fixed the blogname issue by also inserting

    display: none;
    }
    #header .description {
    display: none;
    }

    into the style.php file, but the description is still visible on my site which I don’t want- I want search engines to see both the blogname and description, but for these not to be visible in my blog header- I managed to hide the blog name, but the description still shows- any ideas?

    Never mind- Had to upgrade WP and Tiga doesn’t play nice with ht4e upgrade- will have to find another theme I guess

    Well hte problem is that the Tiga theme won’t work with WP upgrades & I haven’t found a theme I like as well as the Tiga theme- it’s got all sorts of neat configs within the theme with what they call Tigerator- you can adjust size color, header etc all in the control panel- I did the WP upgrade last night- clean install, but used automaticc to do the upgrade & it upgraded to WP 2.5, and the Tiga theme is broken- won’t show my blogroll, my links, categories etc. (All the links and blogroll and category are listed in my control panel, but they ismply won’t show up on my site even though I’ve made sure the ‘make visible’ box is checked- Hate the new admin panel in 2.5 WP uggh)

    As well, what I really wanted to learn how to do here was to fix the exploits in the old WP- I’d read soem articles on “Hardening WP” to stop these ‘drive by spamming’ attacks (which is what was happening I found out- ) because these exploits will become particular to even hte new WP upgrades soon enough & I wanted to learn what to do- where to look, in hte theme files for the vulnerabilities, as the spamming the header.php and footer.php files seems to be a common exploit which the hackers will find a way around even with hte new WP upgrades at some point.

    Yeah- about hte redownloading the old file, the site lists only the new theme- they apparently did away altogether with hte old theme- can’t find it anywhere- not that it matters now that I’ve upgraded.

    I’ll probably end up having to upgrade no doubt, but doing so won’t teach me how to fix the problem, and I’ll end up losing all my posts I’ve done over the last two years? How would I go about saving the posts & all the various links I’ve collected over the years? Manually reinserting them again? Would be better to find the hole and script, fix it, then upgrade with the theme still inplace wouldn’t it?

    I’m getting the exact same thing- spam just keeps returning, and there is nothign in the footer that looks odd to me

    ****HERE IS WHERE THE SPAM SHOWS UP*******

    </body>
    </html>

    Has anyone got any suggestions where else to look? I’ve been all through my files and not knowing webmastering liek some here- it’s very difficult- and telling us to ‘get a clue’ isn’t being helpful- not all of us are as code gifted as some here.

    Leland, I am almost sure it’s the theme that got hacked because if I use a different theme, the spam doesn’t infect my footer file in the new theme- I’d liek to try to salvage the Tiga theme, as it’s one of the nicer ones I’ve come across looks-wise & functional wise- plus I’m now somewhat familiar with how to customize it

    Joni- I haven’t checked the functions fiule- but have checked the header and can’t see anythign wierd in there (note- I might have spotted it a few n ights ago- not really knowing what it was, deleting it, and now the header file doesn’t get the spam- I think I fixed the header spam by accident- not knowing what I was doing)- Not sure what’s going on- My blog was fien for two years- then wham- got the spam- got penalized by google badly for it.

    I can’t run the 1.0.2 Tiga file- it comes up with errors/ call function errors etc. I lost my zipped 1.0.1 Tiga file, and can’t find it online anywhere- otherwise I’d just reinstall the 1.0.1 Tiga theme- clean instal, and start over again with it, customizing it back to how I like it. Kind of in a pickle here without the zipped Tiga file- Don’t want to upgrade my wordpress (& tiga) because I tried that and got all kinds of wierdness- had ot revert back to earlier wordpress and Tiga theme (I had the zipfile for Tiga 1.0.1 back then- I musta got delet happy oneday & got rid of it thinking I wouldn’t need it again- lesson learned lol)

    nm- I’m going back to the Tiga theme as the Digest theme just won’t post my posts the way I want- it’s far too strict a code to allow me to post my pictures like I want (at hte top left with text to the right of it- the Digest theme keeps complaining about the ‘align’ attribute being invalid as well as ‘font’ attirbutes being invlid- when I fix them, the posts come out looking terrible with text below the pictures, the wrong font look etc-)

    Anyway- Really disappointed as I really wanted to make the Daily Digest hteme work- just wish it had been written with XHTML transitional instead of XHTML strict.

    OK- I deleted the theme, and reinstalled it, and now only get 15 errors- all due to images in my posts it seems- Validator complaines about ‘align’ ‘target’ ‘color’ etc, and the rest of errors are “element “font” undefined” errors.

    When I had all the other errors before, it was due to me tryign to add sidebar sections like ‘recent posts’, which worked, and trying to add in a section to house my ads and extra links etc.

    How would I add a section header (what I’m talking about is a header like “Archives” that you see on my site, but renaming it to somethign like “Extra links” or “Environmental issues” or something?)

    The errors I can probalby figuer out with the internet search, but I’d liek to add soem sidebar sections to house all my previous links and stuff.

    Hi, thanks IR- Yeah, most of my errors are related to my posts (however a few are related to sidebar issues which I can’t even find in any of the php’s or css’s in my theme editor- like hte “Islam Revealed” sidebar section is not listed, nor are any of the other sidebar sections such as the ‘artist links’, climate hype’ etc- these sections don’t even show up so I could correct them. All the errors seem to be either content I post, or content in the sidebars that I post- not hte theme itself.

    Yes, I think Tiga was transitional- not sure though, but it seems like it would have been if it was validating more easily than the Daily Digest theme. Not sure how to really tell though.

    I’d really like to use the Daily Digest theme- is there any was to possibly make it transitional and more forgiving?
