You can use as many ping services as you wish! Most of the “better” services will look for duplicates and will omite one if it happens. If you are just starting off, I would suggest the default that WordPress gives. Then look to see what services the default does not cover and start adding to your list.

Hi Steve.
Pings are used to help get your posts out to the rest of the world. Because they attract new readers, you do want to use pings. Here is a brief explanation of weblog pings — when you publish a post, WordPress looks in a list (found in Options -> Writing) that sends out a ping to each server and tells them you have updated your blog. These servers will in one way or another tell their users that you have posted. WordPress has 1 server setup by default for you to use. I believe the one they have is a service that takes the ping you send them and sends it to many other servers to notify them that you have posted. I hope this helps you!!!
