While I was trying my hands at few php files, I noticed that the correct syntax is “php _e()” and not “php_e()”. Please take a note of while-space after “php”. What esmi has suggested might be correct solution for your current case, but if one is preparing ones own php file and comes across similar syntax error I think one should take note of difference mentioned above.
