Hi, Unfortunately not as i am setting up on xampp local copy at the moment.
I am using no plugins, and using weaver extreme theme.
I have tried using default theme twenty thirteen but same result
If i go into edit the page the event is on (or should be on) i can see the descriptive text in the WP editor.
Define the display options for this event. all options ticked
event path

if i click back to
events/event/ i see what i want although i get Continue reading that then goes to events/event/my event name/
and the link from the calendar goes to events/event/my event name/

Ok with you now, so with my user hidden using your custom htaccess code, they can pump all the names they want with no impact, then if they guess correctly, login security kills them with the wrong password after x attempts.

Not sure why when it is on though set to 3, i can try 8 times with wrong login info but still not be locked out?
if i put correct user name but wrong password it locks me out. Should it not for user name too.

tried two sites, enter incorrect user and password no lock out, enter correct user wrong password i do get locked out

This user account has been locked until November 24, 2014 3:16 am due to too many failed login attempts. You can login again after the Lockout Time above has expired.

Maybe it is, just a long delay
