Here’s a link to making child theme:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_ThemesBasically, you have to install it in the wp-content folder/Themes/[parent theme]-child
The file you will need at the very least is a style.css under that child theme folder. You can use FTP or the cPanel, which ever is more convenient for you or whatever your host server recommends you to use. Either way, you will need to upload the child theme.
I hope that helps to get you going forward.

In reply to: Can't click dropdown menu items on my site- twenty elevenI checked your website and the only submenu I saw was the Social Media submenu under About. What is the structure of your menu and submenu?
I use Twenty Eleven for my blog and have submenus that are attached to the main menu. When I check that submenu page on the Pages section, I use the quickview for that sub Page, the Parent selected should be the Main menu item. This way it knows that it is under that particular main menu. I hope this is helpful and not confuse you.

You will need to create your child theme style. css file under the Themes folder in WordPress. This way when the parent theme is updated (like you did) it will not get overwritten. Like WPyogi suggested, check the link given on how to create Child theme:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_ThemesI hope this helps.
