Problem solved in version 3.1.4 (maybe earlier)
I can add that if I try to use the “Forgot password” link it seems to work but the email I receive contains the following (translated from Swedish):
Username: Test Testsson
Password: [plaintext_password]
So it don’t give a new password.

I have the same problem and have the 3.0.9 version of Shiftcontroller.
I haven’t seen the problem that no emails are sent (or received). Thoose having gmail addresses still send.
