Thanks a lot for getting back to me – that makes a lot more sense now! I’ve made those changes and my style.css file now looks like:

/*
Theme Name: twentyeleven child
Description: twentyeleven child theme
Author: Mike
Template: twentyeleven
*/

@import url(“…/twentyeleven/style.css”);

I’ve uploaded this back to my twentyeleven child folder and it still isn’t showing as an option to select in the themes admin screen? Is there something else I need to do please? The style.css file is the only file in the twentyeleven child folder.
