Yes, I was. However, I deactivated it and installed postman, the site where it is enabled went down with the same behavior. No change. I won’t reinstall Multisite Robots but that doesn’t seem to be the cause, or at least it is not the only problem.

After deactivating that plugin – I tried another test:
Installed the plugin, activated it on two sites.
Both sites showed the same behavior – but now I’m not seeing errors being written to the error log.
    Network admin still running fine.
Uninstalled plugin – we’re back on all sites.

    Things I can say:
The problem only happens to the sites where it is active. (expected at least)
The apache errors are gone – but now I’m not seeing any errors.
The two sites don’t have a lot in common, but I looked at the plugins to see what there was:

    Site 1:

Most of those are multisite specific, but you may have seen them or know they cause conflicts with your setup.

I really want to thank you for pointing out the problem with Multisite Robots!!! It was wrong on so many levels. But now, I need to figure out what is causing the problem. I am using Cloudways as a hosting provider by the way.

    Thanks!

    Hi

I’m looking for a multisite solution and I would be happy to use this on a site by site basis. Seeing that others had used it that way, I tried it today on a single site – It took wordpress down with a 503. the sites came back the second I deleted the plugin. I tried it again, just to see if perhaps it was a transitory problem – same thing happened.

I would really like to use it – Are there any known conflicts that might be causing the down? I am using the latest version of WP – I don’t know what others are using.

    Any suggestions welcome.

Just adding a point here – The “Lite” version works fine and does quite enough but I use it on a multisite installation so I decided that for $15 – the extra features were worth the money to upgrade. I haven’t been disappointed.

The upgrade is a one time charge. I want to support continued development of Quick Cache – especially for multisite – and I want support if I need it so I think it is fair to ask for the extra. I also use S2 so I appreciate the integration the two systems have.

If you are using WordPress multisite for professional work – I don’t see an issue with going pro.

    Thanks Mike!

    Very helpful

I just realized – I’m having the same issue Eliot is having. After looking at the screenshots, I don’t see the blue border with the edit link in the grid view. I just see a dark shadow when I hover over an image in the grid.

I am using the MP6 and the Dashbboard plugins. They could be causing a conflict – but as I understand it – this intended to be compatible with them and the 3.8 enhancements.

Just an update – I’m not using media library assistant (it has conflicts in my setup that won’t allow post editing) – so the request would be to include any media taxonomy…

Multisite plugins do not have to be must use. They can just appear on the network settings – and not in settings for sites.

Hmmm – I’m new at this so I didn’t realize the difference.

After looking around at various sites, I found this two part series helpful http://www.bemdesign.com/wordpress/2013/07/03/creating-managing-and-displaying-custom-post-types-using-the-pods-framework-plugin-for-wordpress/

It covers the custom post type process and it helpful in making that work, which I did now.

However, one comment – the process for picking up the content of a pod and displaying it could be made simpler if there was a choice similar to the detail choice – something like “use a template to display content from THIS item.” I could be misunderstanding the choices, but the only relevant choice I see requires you to find the post ID or slug while the pod short code builder is on the screen. I can do it – but my users are going to be more challenged and that wasn’t what I was hoping would be the result of using pods.

For the backup of the files in the uploads and blog.dir directories, you can use standard backup routines as you have available from your hosting company. You don’t want to use an on WordPress solution for these files because they load the server too heavily for no real purpose related to WordPress itself. That is why I don’t recommend using this plugin for that purpose, although it will work. It really loads the server as it moves the files in those directories.

Because we’re talking about routines outside of WordPress that will vary based on your hosting provider – you need to start there. A simple script and a cron job will work on a Linux base – but the actual setup depends on your configuration.

It does work! Thank you. Sorry I couldn’t get to test it before it went out.

    But it works!

Just so you understand the background, I had the previous version running on my own multisite network – and it was running just fine. But, the same version running on the multisite for the corporate system where I work was periodically locking up individual sites and in the final problem, locking up the entire network. We pulled it off the corporate system and I agreed to watch for the update and see what happened on my personal network when it was installed.

When I installed it this morning, I used the standard plugin update routine. The sites all went down as soon as the plugin was activated by the update routine. Everything came back after I went into FTP and deleted the plugin. I then reinstalled the previous version by FTP and everything is working normally again. My guess is there are conflicts with other plugin or theme combinations somewhere but I haven’t been able to pin it down to a specific situation.

Under the circumstances, I can’t risk bringing all my sites down during peak hours again – but if I understand you correctly – it appears that if the plugin was first deactivated, then deleted and then a installed from scratch on the network again, it should work.

I can try that during low traffic hours tonight, but because of the risk of having the entire network lock up again, I can’t do it any sooner.

That said, it isn’t a good practice for updates to require full reinstall as an alternative to lockups because some people will certainly just push the button when they have a number of updates to run and not have a clue what went wrong.

I’ll watch for additional updates in this thread or updates to be pushed through (even though I know that is unlikely because of testing) and I will try the cold update tonight unless I hear something different. thanks for continuing to look into this problem. I think what the plugin itself offers is unique, and i do want to see it work.

We’re getting something similar with one of our sites on our multisite network.

When Statcomm is activated, our blog site will not return pages and we see this in the logs of the site
PHP Catchable fatal error: Object of class statcommCurrentUser could not be converted to string in /var/www/html/WPNetwork/wp-content/plugins/statpress-community-formerly-statcomm/statcomm.php on line 1110

This error only occurs on one site and the admin dashboard is still reachable. Because we can reach the backend, we have deactivated normally and the site comes back. We are using current versions of both WordPress and the plugin.

Yes it is. You will have to consider what you want to be “default” and by user. Default plugin settings apply to the specific site in the multisite you are using. Individual users who are on multiple sites, will find that their settings are universal.
