Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Can't see text on pages after migrating site to root directoryProblem is finally fixed. Not quite sure what I did, but I was googling various options, and someone suggested I clear my cache, close out and come back in. Once I did that AND I re-copied my visual editor plugins from my development subdirectory into the root (since I had corruption problems doing this with Filezilla), all was back to normal. Thank you everyone.
Not quite sure how I fixed the problem, but all is working properly now.

In reply to: [Advanced Editor Tools] TinyMCE Advanced not working after site migrationProblem solved. Since there were corruption problems when I migrated my files using Filezilla, I decided to copy the files for this particular plugin from my development site subdirectory to my root directory within my Control Panel. That fixed everything. Thanks to my web host support for walking me through how to do this.

In reply to: [Advanced Editor Tools] TinyMCE Advanced not working after site migrationSo I deactivated the plugin and re-installed it. Still the same problem. There are no editing/formatting icons on my pages and I can’t see the text of what is really there. I really need some help with this one as quickly as possible. My new site is up and running, but I can’t make edits!
Sorry. Maybe I’m getting my plugins confused. I have the Black Studio TinyMCE Widget and the TinyMCE Advanced plugins. But I am having the same problem with the widget plugin on my home page widget that I am having with the other plugin on my pages. Both provide the visual editor with familiar formatting icons — and all of those are gone on both editors.
My site has already moved, so I don’t really know how to use the FAW about URL change/site migration. How can I undo what went wrong when I don’t know what went wrong!
I DID use the Better Search Replace plugin, as recommended by WordPress. Was that a mistake. How can I undo or fix?

In reply to: Can't see text on pages after migrating site to root directoryYes, Moving Directories on Existing Server. Had lots of trouble with the process, and one of the WordPress Forum moderators helped me a lot throughout last night. So files are all there, but I think I’m having a problem with the Black Studio TinyMCE Widget. Do you think I should delete it and install it again? I’m worried about losing what I already did.
I wanted to let you know that I decided to see if my Control Panel would let me copy the entire wp-content folder that was in my development subdirectory into my root directory, overwriting what was there. I was able to do this (wish I had thought of that earlier!), and now my site is working perfectly!! See http://www.lewinsville.org.
Thank you for all your help throughout the night! What a nightmare … and how wonderful to have all resolved now! Many many thanks for your thoughtful help.
Yes, the menus are saved. I think the issue is in the theme files.
I don’t know how to copy the wp-content folder directly from the /wp subfolder on the server to the root directory on the server. If I could do that, perhaps that would solve my corrupt media files issue and my theme issues, because before I migrated the site up from the /wp subdirectory, everything worked just fine. Any thoughts on how to do this?
Okay on Filezilla.
On the menu issue…. I went to Appearance ->Menus and the locations tab. In this theme, I have two menus and there are two locations — header and footer. The header menu is assigned to the header location and the footer menu is assigned to the footer location. So I think that’s not the issue.
I’m wondering if I could and should re-load the theme. Not sure how to do that….
And when I say that “some of my theme didn’t make it…” what I mean is that my menu doesn’t appear as it did when in the /wp subdirectory. The drop down menu items from the main horizontal menu are transparent and hard to read over the header images. The drop down menu items used to have a light background color. This is what I don’t know how to fix.
Yes. When it was time to move my files from the /wp directory to my root directory, I used this copy of my files to upload to the root. The files also still reside in the /wp directory. Did I do this incorrectly? I don’t know how to move files up in Filezilla, only how to upload or download from one page (local) to the other pane (remote).
So I have all the files on my local hard drive.
I just tried uploading again one subdirectory in the wp-contents folder, but no better results. I can upload all my media files one by one, but some of my theme didn’t make it and I don’t know how to get those files. I have emailed the theme author for help there.
Yes, I have access to the originals and I have a backup of the entire /wp subdirectory. I uploaded all the files to my root directory from the subdirectory backup I made. Do you think it would be worth trying to upload the wp-content folder again using Filezilla? The process of deleting each image file, re-uploading in wordpress and then reinserting in each page seems quite laborious. I have hundreds of media files!
And finally, here’s another link to a page with lots of images which only load part way: http://www.lewinsville.org/events/
Thank you.
Here’s a page which should have a full header image directly under the main horizontal menu at the top: http://www.lewinsville.org/how-to-join/ As you can see, only a sliver of the top of the image appears. Here’s another — the header image appears in full, but there’s an image on the left side of the text which does not appear and there’s a pdf document at the bottom of the text which has a broken link. There is also a problem with the theme — the drop down menus on the main menu appear transparent and very hard to read.
I was using Filezilla to upload the wordpress files to the root directory. I noticed that when I put up my default page that the site is down for maintenance, one of the images I uploaded with Filezilla didn’t fully show. Not until I uploaded it with Dreamweaver (which is what I was using for my old html site, did the full image show. Perhaps I have a setting wrong in Filezilla? I’ve not had that problem before.
Thank you again for your persistence with my issues!
