In reply to: WP folder structureI opened up a help ticket w/ my host & they tell me that I can’t do a re-write on my windows based hosting plan….I didn’t get any messages about making .htaccess writable. in the WP control panel I played around w/ teh custom permalink structure, but it obviously doesn’t modify the database or .htaccess file. Is that why I’ve been having so much trouble? because the .htaccess file is unwritable? Essentially I have to modify the .htaccess file, correct?

In reply to: WP folder structureThanks again esmi,
I went into mySQL database to actually see where the heck everything was located. For whatever reason, when I imported the wordpress.com blog, it imported them under the default permalink structure: i.e. blog.com/?p=123, even though I specified the year/month/day structure. I changed the permalink structure to the default setting and now everything works. But the question remains, how do I switch everything over to the year/month/day/title structure like I had on my wordpress.com blog so that all the URLs match?
Thanks again

In reply to: Permalink Issuesthat URL doesn’t work yet cause I had to reset the DNS settings so that it would stop mapping to my wordpress.com site, but you can still see it if you put blog.farawayflyfishing.com/index.php

In reply to: Permalink Issueshttp://blog.farawayflyfishing.com/wp-admin/options-permalink.php
month & name = year/month/name
day & name = year/month/day/nameForum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Permalink IssuesThat’s what I did do. It confuses me too. In my wp control panel, the option for common permalink settings are:
Common settings
Default http://blog.farawayflyfishing.com/?p=123Day and name http://blog.farawayflyfishing.com/index.php/2010/04/06/sample-post/
Month and name http://blog.farawayflyfishing.com/index.php/2010/04/sample-post/
Numeric http://blog.farawayflyfishing.com/index.php/archives/123
Custom Structure
I chose Day & name cause that’s what I thought was needed. There is no folder structure under the root directory for year/month/day Where would the posts be located?

In reply to: Permalink IssuesBasically I want to mirror the file structure that I had on my wordpress.com blog, which I had mapped to blog.farawayflyfishing.com, so that the links & urls stay the same. For whatever reason, the attachement pages & links don’t work
The permalinks are set to: blog.farawayflyfishing.com/index.php/year/month/day/name,
but there’s no such file directory structure & none of the links work. where could the blog pages be located? I installed wordpress & set up the database, and imported the xml file exactly according the instructions.

In reply to: Permalink IssuesI would do it manually but I don’t even know what a functioning permalink structure should look like. Please help!

In reply to: Quick question about moving to self-hosted blogThanks again esmi,
Do you know exactly how I would make the internal link changes using the plugin you suggested? I am unsure of where to begin.
Thanks

I am trying to do the same thing. The internal links to all my pictures are wrong. Can you explain to me exactly how you accomplished this?
Thanks!

In reply to: Quick question about moving to self-hosted blogDoes that mean that I need to chance my IP for blog.mydomain.com from shared to dedicated, or can I just unmap the domain in my wordpress.com control panel?
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Quick question about moving to self-hosted blogSo, I unmapped blog.mydomain.com in the my wp control panel, so that the primary domain is blog.wordpress.com, but the url blog.mydomain.com is still redirected to blog.wordpress.com
When I go into the IP settings, it says that the IP assigned to blog.mydomain.com is a shared IP (I presume I did this when i set up the domain mapping originally, but can’t quite remember). Do I have to change it back to a dedicated IP before I can install WP in blog.mydomain.com?
Will this affect my traffic & page rank? Thanks!

In reply to: Quick question about moving to self-hosted blogThanks esmi.
I remember when I mapped the domain the first time I had to change something with the DNS settings on my subdomain. Do I have to change something here again?
Thanks in advance!

In reply to: Transferring blogSo i’ve installed wordpress on my new server, but am having permalink issues:
I imported the file w/ the same permalink structure as my wordpress.com blog, i.e.: year/month/day/title
but none of the links correspond because the links are now now set up like:
mydomain.com/blog/index.php/year/month/day/title,
and the links for photos are located in: mydomain.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/year/month/day/title.
Is there anyway, to easily make the permalinks correspond? thanks!
