I am having to upload manually and have errors in two of my maps. According to Yoast the sitemap should be uploaded automatically “When you publish a new post or page, the XML sitemap is automatically submitted to Google & Bing allowing them to easily (and quickly) find your new content.” (https://yoast.com/articles/wordpress-seo/#xmlsitemaps)
