In reply to: Auto-Update errored, entire web log inaccessibleThanks much. It is back.
I wish I knew why the auto update feature is such a problem, but at least the system is up and running again.

O.K., this does not seem to be the place to get this problem addressed. Can someone point me to a better place?

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Time ZoneThanks much.
It does not happen every time; it has happened perhaps twice before, certainly once.
I’m not totally computer illiterate, but I attempted to do a manual install once before and could not figure it out. However, I did delete the Jetpack last night, and this afternoon reinstalled it with the automatic install, and it appears to be functioning now. (I am going to copy this entire folder to my hard drive, and hopefully next time it happens I can step back to the previous version directly.)
Thanks for your help.

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Update CrashI am guessing that this is related to the problems outlined in https://wordpress.org/support/topic/version-4-3-2-update-crashed-the-blog/ so I’m answering here.
According to hosting provider ReadyHosting, my PHP/Python version is ImageMagick version 6.3.3.

I have managed to restore the blog by deleting Jetpack via FTP; I’m hoping there will soon be a new version that will work?

In reply to: Post Pages 404 errorThank you so much, Joseph. I had not tampered with that, but I had looked at it, and looking again I observed that it was set for “custom structure”. I remember thinking at the time that I had no idea what the ramifications of changing that would be so I didn’t, but now that it’s on “Postname” it’s working.
I do appreciate this. I was just starting to back up the stuff I’d done with the intent of doing an uninstall/reinstall to see of I could fix whatever it was, and now it looks like I’m good to go (or at least, if there are still problems I have not yet uncovered them).

In reply to: Post Pages 404 errorThanks for the reply, Joseph. I can’t imagine any way that I altered the post URL; I hit “Publish”, then went to the home page and saw the link to the new post, clicked it, and got the error.
If I go to the list of “all posts” it shows as “Published”; “Edit” gives me the complete post, text and images; “View” gives me a 404 error page. I also get the 404 error if I try to open the 2013 Archives link from the front page. It’s as if the software thinks it has created a directory but the server doesn’t believe it’s there.
