In reply to: Profile photos – avatarThank you for the replies, they truly help to demonstrate the unity of the WP community. I have no problem with Gavatar, or using a Gavatar when I choose to, I agree with you on all points and that using a Gavatar can be very beneficial. I can register at gavatar and setup an account as Senff suggested.
This morning I questioned if this post has expired it’s purpose and should I remove it, well not today, not yet.
I google searched “wordpress add a profile photo” which resulted in hundreds of search results. There seems be be a plethora of plugins available to allow for a local profile pic. I am not an expert on wordpress, matter of fact it’s somewhat new to me. I did take the time to learn about wordpress security and I took some fundamental steps to harden my blog against hackers. I read about the use of plugins and how they should be used at minimum on account that some lend themselves to be exploited and lack of quality control.
Here is what I am looking for. I want to be able to upload a photo from my drive to my WP profile. That’s it! Please answer me truly, is that really something so difficult, am I being unreasonable?

I thought about the pitch of my post and wondered if I might have been a little too harsh. But after reconsidering I think maybe not harsh enough.
Yes this process of setting a profile pictures is ” a little convoluted” I’ll try to make my point a little clearer. never have I had to spend so much time and effort to accomplish such a minor task as adding a photo to a profile. Yes there are workarounds and at some point I’ll figure it out.
WordPress engineers, this is really dumb. How much time has been consumed by users like myself who have to figure this out. You waste my time and the time of countless others, you waste the time of volunteers like Jan Dembowski who take the time to help people over come or work around this f_ck up, instead of resolving more completed issues like WP security and things like that.
It might be said I’m making a big deal of this. maybe so but I wish to remind the forum users that adding a photo to a profile should never ever be this big a deal.
I believe my points are valid,how can people who are so much smarter than I not get this?
