  • It’s appropriate for your host folks to have first crack at restoring your site. You can always refer them to this forum if they have their own wordpress specific questions, and perhaps offer to do some research for them.

I’m unsure about what you mean by your immediate needs? I was describing the things you need to get your site back up. There may not be a short cut around them. I would hate for you to leave a backdoor in place that a hacker comes easily come back in with again.

I would look for a web host that does nightly backups. It makes restoring much faster!

I personally recommend you get a new webhost. Or at least be put onto a server that wasn’t hacked. Once a hacker gets in, it really takes quite an effort to resecure the server with any confidence.

There are two main things you really want. First is the mysql database. Ask your host if they have a backup. Get them to send you a copy if they do. If they don’t, and you don’t, the written content of your posts is lost.

As well, anything that was in the wp-content dir is something you also need. It contains your theme (which could be reacquired, not essential), but will also likely contain any uploaded pics and such.

You can likely reinstall brand new wordpress files and restore from your database if you have the mysql, and replace your pictures files if you have those. Make sure there is nothing in there pretending to be a picture that isn’t one. A hacker type might leave behind something that shouldn’t be there.

Ideally, if you have an original on your drive, use that. If you don’t, try and recover from your existing files. But wherever you can’t replace with new stuff.

I haven’t been able to get the codex for a while now. It’s timing out before anything comes up. Not sure if you’re having that problem omerkanipak, but if you search these forums, you might find the specific info you need. just search for wp_list_cats. I’m not familiar enough with this to advise from memory.

glad you’re sorted pigduck. you didn’t do anything wrong in my book, but you should also know that you can click the edit link in your original post and add the link in there.

There is a thread that already discussed this, and apparently control of the domain has not been lost and will be restored at some point. I don’t understand what’s taking so long myself, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

I’m not aware of wordpress doing that. It’s never done it to me. Do you have a control panel for your webhost that has some ‘security’ features?

Perhaps you could post your .htaccess file here. Our collective eyes can look at it and advise.

ah, thanks for letting us know.

For the future, paste stuff into notepad and then copy/save it out again. You’ll remove any formatting junk that way.

    glad you’re sorted out!

thanks for that feedback. basically, you hit the write tab, hit refresh, and then it will work normally?

I’ll see if I can duplicate this, but considering it’s never happened to me, I’m not sure I’ll be successful (or, um, unsuccessful, if you know what I mean).

It sounds like a cache issue. Could be in browser cache, or even your isp’s cache. Perhaps cookies too. I’m not too familiar with everything wp does with cookies, but I’d experiment by deleting them if I had this issue.

nyb, at this point I would probably reinstall my files. do a back up first, and then replace them. perhaps something is amiss.

    I’m scratching my head here.

hmmm. what could you guys have in common? perhaps a plugin.

I recommend you disable all of your plugins and try a test. If it works, then enable them one by one until you see the problem again. (yeah, I know, lots of testing).

I’ve installed fresh, and upgraded from previous several times, and never had a problem with 2.0.3 and posting. I’m just recommend you guys do things I would do if I had such a problem. It might take time. If someone else has experienced this and knows of a solution, we’re all ears here! 🙂

andrena, I see posts. do you mean on new posts only? there is a post titled comments only that only has a title.

nyb. could it be your theme? have you tried switching to the default theme for testing? do your posts show up there?

write something in wordpad, and select all, go to wordpress writing area, and paste. Nothing mysterious. this has nothing to do with only titles showing up though. it’s just to avoid goofy formatting.

First, use wordpad or notepad instead of word. Word will attach a bunch of formatting codes that can mess up your page.

Maybe you folks could provide more info about your setup.

I went to netmom101’s site, and it has a post saying technical difficulties resolved. I wonder what the solution was?

no maximum allowed edits or anything like that.

could be a browser cache. force a refresh to see if the content changes. It could be other things, but let’s rule this one out first.
