    Hi Calvin,
Sorry for my delay in getting back to you. Our website designer has now fixed the broken post. The problem was due to me typing too much content into the post. So this is why I suddenly could no longer get the post to open with the edit button to edit it. You will recall that I told you that when I clicked on the edit button the post opened with just a blank white page.
    sincerely,
    Margaret

    Hi Calvin,

Many thanks for your message 🙂

Our committee have told me not to do anything in case I break something and make matters worse. They have told me that I must wait until our website designer returns from his xmastime holiday.

As well as me being unable to get this particular post to open with the edit button I see that the secure module is now no longer visible to me at the top right of our homepage when I login. Instead, in the front end, I have got to click on a post and open it for the secure module to appear at the top right of the homepage.

I have now established that our members are still able view the content in all of the posts in the secure module when they are logged in.

I am still able to edit all of the other posts in the secure module except for just the one that is giving the problem of opening to a blank white page.

Also, I have noticed that the images in our members galleries can no longer be viewed as a slide show.

Our website designer launched this wordpress website for us in May 2014 and I have had to learn the basics of it to be able to do what I need to do re content only. Previously I had 9 years experience with Joomla.

I have read all the info within the links kindly provided by kmessinger.

I will get back to you as soon as I have heard from our website designer and hopefully will be able to let you know what the problem is and how to solve it.

    Thanks again!

    Margaret

    Hi Calvin,
Many thanks for responding to my request for help.

The post concerned is placed within a secure module of our website that only our logged in members can access. When I click on the edit button of this particular post a blank white page opens and it fails to display any content of the post. Several times I have left the page running like this for ages on my computer screen in the hope that the content of this post would eventually appear on my screen but it hasn’t. Then when I click on the back button it returns back from the blank white page to the page showing the lists of posts with no problem at all. The same happens when I click on the name of the post to try to get it to open for editing. But the quick edit option is working ok with this post. And I am able to edit and update all other posts with no problem. I did wonder if the content of this particular post had reached it’s maximum limit and that this was the cause of the problem.

However, I now see that a message has appeared at the top of the Dashboard page and I quote,
”Flash slideshow support has been removed from NextGEN Gallery. Please see this blog post for more information”.

And on clicking this blog post I found the following statement dated 18th December 2014, Important – NextGEN Gallery No Longer Includes A Flash Option”. The Flash file (imagerotator.swf) which drives the Flash slideshow in NextGEN Gallery’s Basic Slideshow display type had a security vulnerability come to the surface. Unfortunately the file in question is a 3rd party file, which we do not have control over. In addition, the original developer of the Flash file no longer supports it, so updating the file wasn’t a possibility. With that said, we have decided to remove the Flash feature from the Basic Slideshow display type in NextGEN Gallery. We felt the severity of the situation called for removal of the Flash feature.

Calvin, I have noticed today that the slide show feature is no longer working in our ”Members Galleries” and also all of the posts placed within the secure module are no longer visible to me in the frontend when I am logged in. I guess this is the result of the flash feature being removed.

As the Administrator of our website I posted this blog to seek help so as to try to avoid our voluntary and non-profit making art association incurring website designer repair costs. I had hoped I could repair the fault myself by obtaining help from this blog. However, our committee have since told me to contact our website designer but obviously he is currently on holiday.

I would be frightened to tamper with the plugin settings in case I break something and make matters worse – lol.

This is the first time i have placed a blog so I am just finding my way here.

    sincerely, Margaret (mandb)
