Hmmm good point juggledad. It seems I will need to contact the host either way.

    Thanks again for the help.

Thank you again for your help kmessinger.

I have looked in the ‘all pages’ section but it somehow wasn’t there. That was the first place I checked! 😉

Looks like I’m just going to have to get access to the database or to recreate the page from scratch. Unfortunately, google cache doesn’t seem to have a copy of it so it might be slightly different this time around :S.

Marking this as resolved since I pretty much have all the answers I was looking for :).

If that was in the appearance menu it came from a plugin or a commercial theme.

Thank you. This was something that I was assuming but didn’t know which is helpful, but also points to the probability that the page is just gone forever.

I have checked the users and the role of my login is actually ‘Administrator’. I suppose this means that I do have admin capabilities.

I will try your advice and see where it gets me thank you.

Also, if there were a backup of this custom home page; where would it be? What plugins would provide such a thing?

Further, if there was no backup; how can I go about making one? I certainly don’t want to lose anything like this again :(.

I’m currently a CS student so I should be fairly competent with such things – I know backups and updating willy nilly are stupid things in generally so I don’t even know why I did this update with such ignorance in the first place.

Well I mean I have some sort of ability to create, edit, delete pages and add plugins and what not. I just wasn’t sure if that was full admin rights since somebody else created the site for my sister and she was given her own wordpress login (which is what I’ve been using)

That’s what I assumed was that updating plugins should have nothing to do with any of the pages so I was surprised when the home page was completely erased.

Then I realized it was the ‘custom home-page’ which is found from the appearance menu.

The url for the site is: http://www.samanthahowarth.com/

Thank you for your helpful replies.

I had a feeling that if I don’t have administrator rights I will be somewhat powerless to do anything.

Dan Russell: Is it possible that simply disabling one of the plugins could resolve the issue? I’ve tried manually deactivating them since I don’t have access to the folders as far as I know (somebody else admins and has set this website up), and it didn’t seem to have any effect.

I do have a sinking feeling that the ‘custom home-page’ was just simply reset after the updates. None of the other ‘pages’ are affected in any way.

It just seems like a fairly odd thing to happen after a simple update but I know next to nothing about how wordpress operates.
