    Hello BAC,

At the moment there are none, but I will check if that is possible in the next version of the plugin.

    Best regards,

    Maarten

    Hello jghaanstra,

I’m happy to hear you would like to use the plugin. Could you tell a little bit more about the situation in which you are expecting to see the widget when it is not? Which widget settings are you using and which page of your blog are you on?

Depending on the settings you choose for a specific All Related Posts widget, the following posts are shown in a widget.

    • Posts related to search engine search terms (tags and categories)
These will only be shown if you enter your blog originating from a search engine.
    • The first post a visitor came to on a previous visit
This is one single post. It will only be shown in the widget if the first page a user visited on his last visit was not the home page. (for example a visitor entered via a search engine or other link to a post on your blog.
    • Posts related to the shown post
These will only be shown on post pages, so not on the homepage or on a category page.
    • Posts related to search engine search terms (full post content)
These will only be shown if you enter your blog originating from a search engine.

Please note that if no related posts are found based on these criteria, also no widget is shown (as showing an empty widget would not be useful.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need any other help.

    Hi max_Q,
I’ve fixed the database issue and improved the algorithm for finding related posts. Posts that are more related (match more categories and tags) will be shown first.
Please evaluate this improvement and let me know what you think.

    Hi max_Q,
I will correct the database query issue in the next version. Also I’ll try to take into account the extend to which posts match, so better matching posts will get preferential treatment.
    Thanks for your feedback!

Regarding database stress: If you consider the 4 options:

    1. The first post a visitor came to on his previous visit
    2. Posts related to seach engine search terms (tags and categories)
    3. Posts related to the shown post
    4. Posts related to seach engine search terms (full post content)

The first is least intensive and the 4th is by far the most intensive.

    Hello max_Q,
Yes you can choose which logic to use per widget. Regarding the effect of database intensive queries: I guess what that also depends on the speed of your web server and the number of visitors. Currently this is not cached by the script, although the MySQL server might do that.
Give it a try and let me know your experiences.

    Hello westcoastcontent,

The widget only displays when it finds any related posts.

So, for example when it finds posts with similar tags or categories, search words coming from google or an other search engine, or when you return from a previous visit which started at another page then the home page. This also depends on what you enabled on the widget settings.
Which settings for the widget did you use?

Let me know so I can correct any possible issue with the plugin.

    Kind regards,

    Maarten

    Hello Sarah and Paul,

I have looked into the issues you encounter and have made some changes to the plugin to minimize space between links in a hopefully smarter way. These should now/shortly be available as version 0.9 of the plugin. Please let me know if this solves the problem.

If not, could you add a link or screenshot with html-code?

    Hi Paul,

Sorry, I haven’t been around for a while. Thanks for your feedback.
Does you site still show this issue? I did not recognize it.

On of the issues is the space required to show the facebook like button. The “iframe” used to show that button requires more space than just the button itself. It also requires space to show the comment box once you click it.

Could you please verify that you are using the latest version of the plugin: 0.8? That one already uses less space when not using the facebook button.

I look forward to your feedback,

    Maarten
