Hey, I got the same problem and no solution yet. In case some details may help:
It only happens at my production server, locally at my PC it all works fine.
I read somewhere it may be something about writing permissions on some files, well, giving 777 to the entire site does not fix the problem either.
Any help would be really, etremely, awesomely appreciated!

Hey! I have been desperately searching for a way to paginate categories since I have a page full of subcategories. I’m using WP PageNavi for my posts pagination and it works fine but it is not working for Categories, did you manage to paginate Categories with this plugin? please Help!
