In reply to: Lost Password, Link In Email Not Valid (key), ‘Fix’ Does Not WorkUpdate: Your code works. Brilliant. Thank you ever so much. Just a thought, but maybe you could add that lovely code into the fix too? Then those people having issues with getting the same funky code in the link, after the blog owner had uploaded the ‘fix’ files. They would be fixed and get a good valid link.
Again, thank you ever so much. If not, maybe people might see my thread here and get help from your great coding and the fix files.
I really appreciate your help.

In reply to: Lost Password, Link In Email Not Valid (key), ‘Fix’ Does Not WorkNow try the forgotten password thing. It should work and not have those weird characters in it. Note that they will have to generate a new email and such through the forgotten password link, this won’t make those old emails magically work.
Hi, thank you for replying. I did have a reply all typed up for you but I deleted it as I tested something else. I will explain below best as I can. I hope I make sense….
I’m the admin of my blog, naturally. Again, my blog is private. I have a plug-in on there so only registered users can see my blog. So therefore you have to be registered OK? Make sense so far?
A couple of day ago I received an email from one of my members. She explained that whatever *I* did she cannot login. That coincided with my upgrade from 2.5 to 2.5.1. She explained that the link she got in the email to get her password said it was invalid. I immediately started testing my blog. I made a new username up. I named that ‘test’ and I did the forgot password. I got an email with a key with funky characters and even though I pasted manually the entire thing in, it didn’t work. I’m sure you are still following me here?
I uploaded those files already that you linked me to. I then assumed it did not work because I got the exact same generated key with funky characters as above on the test account with the email. That above reason is why I assumed it did not work.
I then tried it on my husbands account and yes you are right it does work. BUT ONLY because he has not previously requested his password, so he gets a valid key. Now, that is good for people who have not requested their password, but what about those who have? They do not get refreshed emails, they just get the same crappy link with the code all wrong. How do I fix that? I know I can manually change passwords but again, I would rather let my users change their own profiles.
Thanks again.
EDIT Thank you for the edit. I will test it now on my test account and let you know. I started this post hours ago but never got around to posting it. Called away, then dinner, then I edited. So hours had passed before I finally click the ‘Post’ button.

In reply to: PassWordI’m getting the same thing from my subscribers too. Apparently it’s a bug in 2.5.1. See here: http://www.ekstrapalma.com/wordpress/reset-wp-password-manually/
There is a way to force a password reset through phpMyAdmin since it seems you are locked out, it might be the only way for you until 2.5.2 is released.
Good luck.

In reply to: ‘Members Only’ How do users edit/change their password?Thank you Michael. I tried the code you gave me in the sidebar. It didn’t seem to work, so I added the ‘Text’ widget and tried it there. Didn’t seem to work there neither, just showed an empty space.
So I came up with a workaround and going to post it here in case anyone else is having the same issues :-)…..
My blog, you need to be logged in to see it anyway, so I didn’t need the login part of the login/out, so I made a “Log out” link with the link to log out, then I made another link directly below that links directly to a users profile so they could click it and update their profiles, change/customise their info and most of all their passwords!
Works a charm. Thank you for linking to the admin area. I logged in on my husbands (I didn’t know they had an admin area so thank you) and got the profile link from there.
Thank you again.

In reply to: ‘Members Only’ How do users edit/change their password?Thank you Michael. That is perfect when a user is logged in/out.
Although, is there a link for them to view/edit their profile at all so they are able to customise their profile and better still their passwords so each time they don’t have to keep requesting forgotten passwords.
Thank you ever so much for putting up with me lol.

In reply to: ‘Members Only’ How do users edit/change their password? So you aren’t going to tell your users about the admin ‘Your Profile’ to change their password?
Maybe a plugin then?
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-password-registerForgive me, but I don’t understand what you mean? Unless I haven’t explained properly but….
What I want is for users to be able to edit their own profiles and choose their own passwords. When they sign up to my blog (not here) they get sent a password from my blog. They login, see my blog. But when they’re session times out, they cannot log back in because they don’t remember the auto generated password. And there is nothing on my blog (no link) for them to look at their profile and/or edit their profiles adding a custom password.
Does that make sense? Can I add a custom link? Thanks in advance.

In reply to: Customised functions.php and smiliesHi, thank you very much for responding.
that depends. are you wget’ing the zip? or downloading it to your pc, and then uploading the files. If its the latter don’t upload the default smilies inside the zip.
Yes, I download the zip and do as it states in the upgrading. I always download my entire blog directory first as a backup just in case. Then I upload via FTP. It’s so much easier for me to just drag and drop the files inside the downloded zip straight where I want rather than to nit pick files, know what I mean.
I think in that case (and thank you for confirming there isn’t another way) it would be easier for me to just upload everything, then go into the smilie directory, delete them all, upload my old ones from my back up, then download the new functions.php, open the old and just copy and paste just the smiley part into the new one and upload (ensuring I back-up just in case). I think it would be easier taking just those 2 steps rather than sorting out the folders on upload and picking them out.
Thanks ever so much again. Much appreciated.

In reply to: Is This Possible? blog Private to Unregistered…Thank you Rosie. I have added that plug-in.
Although, it really isn’t what I was looking for. I just assume what I want is just an option at the moment with WordPress.
I was hoping that you could go into the ‘users’ section in the WordPress dashboard and where it shows a list of users you would be able to see the users IP addresses. For example, when you get a comment on your blog and it emails you, it tells you the IP address of the computer the user was using when they made that comment. I was hoping you could see the IP addresses from dashboard without added user tracking.
Another example is forums and forum software. With forum software you can actually look at the members and which threads they are viewing in real time. Which means IP address. I would like something similar to that for WordPress although an option for looking at what the member is viewing in real-time is overkill, just an IP address would be fine for me lol.
Thank you ever so much.

In reply to: Is This Possible? blog Private to Unregistered…Thank you Rosie. You rock! 😆 That plugin is perfect and is set up now. Thank you again. I realise it’s hackable but I don’t think my follower is techie enough to figure that one.
Since you seem to be great on directing me to plugins and I’m googling a different one. Could you point me in the direction where I would be able to see my users (subscribers) IP address(es)? I have a few subscribers already. All that I know but just want to be cautious.
Thank you again.
