I tried one more thing…

I put the contact form code into the page
by itself and saved the page…

contact form showed up…

I checked the contact form and realized
that I’d left the “subject” and “comment”
sections in the set up….. so, deleted
these and saved the code…

I went back to the page and deleted the
contact form code and once again, entered
the “email for download” code into the
same place it had been inserted several
times before….

saved/updated the page and VOILA!!!
the Email for Download form was there..

I entered my email and submitted…

It works perfectly….

at this moment, I don’t know WHY it worked
this time…

Possibly because I deleted the two fields
that were not necessary?

Hope this info is useful to someone else
having the same challenges…

when you install WP with Fantastico,
you put in your username/password
AND, your “nickname”

the posts show up as the nickname-
not as my username…

If i install with Softaculous, the
Username shows up….so, when I log
into dashboard, the first thing I do
is go to Edit Users and change the
name that shows up as posting…

I understand the there is line wrap
here…. and, I hate trying to read
posts that sprawl across the screen…

I have a 24″ wide monitor and it’s often
difficult to read posts….

It is a habit

and, it’s far easier to read bite sized
sentences…

and, none of this “answers” my “request”
to be able to easily use symbols in
username as well as password. It is what
I choose to use as a first line of defense.

If this is the wrong place to post this
request, I will appreciate knowing where
I should move it to.

I think that I may not have waited long enough…

I cloned a complete site – pages and posts, etc.
and installed on a new domain…. left for a couple
of hours. came back to success…

I thank you many bunches…will give this a whirl

I looked for plugins that would help me set things
up in columns and wasn’t able to figure them out….

so, for now, we have the mess

does it matter where I put this code?

I have added the shortcode to a widget
in the sidebar… just put it in with the
message/image that were set up there

I’ve also tried adding the shortcode to
the DOI widget…

still doesn’t show up

the widget sidebar for this site is the
same on all pages…

I’m a real newbie with WP… I can stumble
my way around the dashboard …not really
proficient….

does the shortcode have to go into the
DOI widget?

when I added the widget and looked for
the download, the pdf that I’d uploaded
to the media library didn’t show up?

I greatly appreciate your help.

I did a google search and a site that came
back read “http://www.yourblog.com/wp-admin/options.php”
for finding the url.

I changed “yourblog” to my domain and
didn’t get anywhere?
