I’ve posted a new version, with whitelisting checks.

You’ll know if it’s working if the spam stops 😉
But you need to be agressively adding IPs and domains to your spam words list.
The number of strikes can be ajusted too, the default is 4, change that to 2 for really weeding out spam.
If the spam is making it onto your blog, and not getting caught by the built in moderation system, then you don’t have enough words/IPs in the spam words list to catch the spam anyway.
Spaminator is a way to block the nastiest spam from being posted, and keeping your mod queue clean. The normal moderation system is still needed.
Oh, and make sure it’s activated on the plugins page.

Stay tuned for a “bot booby trap” script, so that spambots trying to spam your site will automatically add themselves to the blacklist.

    Podz,
    – Spaminator is to stop spam at the source.
    – Spam Words is to harvest the spam that gets thru for IPs, emails, and URL to add to the spam words list.
So they don’t overlap, and both can be useful on a blog.

    somefool:
PC viruses install ‘backdoors’ that allow spammers to have remote control over the PC to use it for spamming. Some IPs are spoofed, but mostly it’s zombie botnets.
    Macmanx:
True, but most of the zombies tend to be on cable modems/dsl/adsl and only get their IP addr renewed infrequently. I’m building up my list until this assclown is completely blocked.
I’ll continue to collect IPs with the last quad dropped (so that each entry blocks 255 IPs) for reference.

Here’s a IP deny list that will catch about 99% of this assclown’s botnet:

1.1) Make a “trusted users”-category, that don’t need to go through the tiresome 1).
1.3 has an option to auto whitelist, so that only email addresses that have a previously approved comment will get posted.
Mostly it seems that this latest golimar/poker-x spammer is annoying people beceause of needing to clean up the mess in the mod queue, not because they’re making it past the filters.

    Onethumb,
Check inside your database with phpMyAdmin, or some such, there’s probably a bunch of spam waiting for a post ID for it to match to.

To edit thru the WP interface the files have to be writeable by the webserver process. That’ll usually be “apache” or “www” or some such. Since you’re not in the servers group or vice verse, the files have to be world writable.
The other option would be to change the file’s group to the webserver’s group. Then change the file’s permission to be group writable.
    Then it should work.

    Fantastico lied? I’m shocked. :/

turn off comment-killer and see if it works?

    That’s a PHP issue, IIRC.

mysql 5 might be the problem, I know 4.0.18 works fine.

It wouldn’t be hard to change the function to respect a flag to that effect, but lately my efforts have been stalled by computer problems that have limited my time to work on stuff like this.
    Maybe soon.

HCP was designed to only work on the front page. The idea being that you would *want* the posts to be visible in the archives, just not on the front page.
