Thanks Cais – Apoogies, but I have not received any email from NextGen (unless you mean that initial autoresponder sent on Jan 22 – which just said “If you are a Pro or Plus Member (or inquiring about NextGEN Pro or NextGEN Plus) submitting a query through our support form, we usually respond to all queries with 24 hours. So we’ll be in touch soon with an answer or solution.” ). I resubmitted the issue today via http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/support/ but have not received any replies from there, not even an autoresponder, nor do I see any forum-sort-of way to view questions I have posted or see any replies.
Am I missing some sort of response system over at http://www.nextgen-gallery.com? Thanks sincerely for your prompt comments here on this forum. I can wait for an answer, if necessary. Can always just delete each album’s .htaccess file for the time being, and all works OK. But want a permanent solution, since I will not be the site manager after the setup is complete.
I have done so – all I have gotten back so far is an autoresponder telling me to look into http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/help/ to find some of the most common questions answered. I have. No solution obvious. I did purchase Pro. How do I get them to actually answer? This is pretty simple – how do I get NextGen to NOT create an .htaccess file when it builds a gallery directory?
Perhaps I can simply set permissions on the wp-content/gallery directory? So that all the photos we upload to there would need to have Level 1 to view. Is it possible within s2member to set restrictions on a directory?
Thanks KTS915. So I edited NextGen in Gallery/Other Options/Image Options
to change “Where would you like galleries stored”
from default wp-content/gallery
to wp-content/plugins/s2member-files Then I made sure permissions on s2member-files was set to 775. I tested by making a new gallery and album, and the album WAS created in s2member-files….but the images won’t show (even though I am logged in with full s2member access). Oddly a thumbnail shows when I list my album…but the images within the album are broken (Requested content cannot be loaded. Please try later). Am I missing another setting somewhere in NextGen to get this new photo upload path to work?Re: “the s2member folder designated for the purpose”
KTS915 – What? Where? How to access? Possible to use with NextGen? Only applicable to member profiles?
Are you referring to http://lewayotte.com/projects/s2member-secure-file-uploader/Thanks KTS915. I am already using AMR Users and it’s building fabulous tables, like my members roster. But don’t see how it can create individual user profile pages. Do you know this is possible with AMR Users or one of their add-ons? (I’ll go search their support also – can’t post a question with them until I buy something, it appears). Thanks.
Thanks KTS915. I ended up using BackWPup and it appears to be working fine to get the necessary files and database zipped and scheduled. (I am still trying to get it to talk to DropBox so the weekly backups will be stored redundantly both on the server and at an independent location…) I’ll mark this resolved, and add more comment later if I run into any issues.
I don’t see anything more I could check. My new role is same as author with Level 0 access (except I didn’t allow new role to delete posts). But it’s easy to move Post Level Restriction to 0 just to proofread, then reset it to 1. Thanks KTS915 and I’ll mark this resolved.
Guess that user can always change restrictions to level 0, view and proofread their work, then set it back to level 1 when they are done.
Nevermind – I redid the setup and it works now. Except that this user can edit but not view their own post (which is set to level1 access). Any ideas on how I can allow them to view that one post, the one they created, while leaving everything else restricted?
Thanks KTS915. So I got the plugin, created a new role (rather than editing WordPress’s author) giving it all the capabilities of author but limiting to level0 in s2member. Assigned my user this newly created role. But now when I try to log in as that user, I can’t get to the dashboard at all. I get the s2member default “you need to be a member” page and the error message “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.” Ideas?
