Well, I uninstalled and reinstalled the theme and then used the JetPack CSS Stylesheet Editor.
It worked wonderfully for the color changes. However, I still can’t get the search section switched to the tagline, even after having made the change you suggested.
I’m just going to move forward for now. Thanks for helping with how to properly change the css.

Unfortunately, I did a ton of editing on the style sheet. Is there a way to revert back to the original theme settings after I create a child theme?
