In reply to: Installation Error 404I don’t think I touched the wp-config. I pulled the wp-config-sample, the install.php, the setup-config and the liecense agreement.

In reply to: Installation Error 404Jeez, I hate to keep bugging you, but as soon as I clicked ‘options’ to begin setting things up, the page went blank. Logging out and logging back in also shows a blank page.
I don’t know what else could go wrong at this point.

In reply to: Installation Error 404which directory should wp-config have been in? I was under the impression it went under the wp-admin directory (as moving it is never mentioned in the installation instructions.

In reply to: Installation Error 404Ok, when I followed the installation instructions it said to rename and edit the wp-config-sample to just wp-config. I’ve taken the original and added to the directory and now I get a “Sorry, I can’t write to the directory. You’ll have to either change the permissions on your WordPress directory or create your wp-config.php manually.”

In reply to: Installation Error 404Yes, I am. I have cleaned out the old installation completely (which was causing problems the last time) and wiped the database clean.
I attempted to use the http://www.offthewoodwork.com/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php path.
Where is the wp-config? I cannot locate it in the original extraction in the wp-admin directory. Should I transfer it over from the wordpress directory? Or am I missing something?

In reply to: Clean Install > Accessing install.php does nothingAlright, here’s a shot in the dark. I tried for another clean install and found that the wordpress directory from the previous attempt (likely the first) can’t be deleted. Every time I try to delete it I get the following: “550 /webspace/httpdocs/wordpress/: Directory not empty”. Every deletion attempt for any subdirectories results in the same despite the fact that they are all empty.
Could this be affecting/corrupting the installation of files from these clean installation attempts?

In reply to: Clean Install > Accessing install.php does nothingMy apologies for any shortfalls in communication, this is the first time I’ve worked with WP.

In reply to: Clean Install > Accessing install.php does nothinghttp://www.offthewoodwork.com/webspace/httpdocs/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php is the full directory path to the install. That generates a 404 for me, while http://www.offthewoodwork.com/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php generates a completely blank page.

In reply to: Clean Install > Accessing install.php does nothingWhere do I find the .htaccess file in the directory (trying a completely clean install from absolute scratch)?
Trying to follow the directions from here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory, but I’ve been unable to locate it.
Also, I’m still getting blank install pages. Just cannot figure this out despite the tips you guys have helpfully provided.

In reply to: Clean Install > Accessing install.php does nothingI didn’t reset or change the database info when I installed the new files, would that affect things? It is the same as it was up until I uninstalled the old files and reinstalled them.

In reply to: Clean Install > Accessing install.php does nothingOk, just made that change. Still getting the 404 error using the full path and a blank page using the short path from the instructions.
