I have the same thing – did you get it solved.
Seem to see icons on backend but not when customising on front end.

Ok so I have changed themes (make theme) and seem to have been able to apply post grid to my new homepage.
The only issue now is everything looks fine when I view my site yet whenever I hit the customize button on the front end it reverts back to the old homepage without the posts visible and the other edits I have made on the back end.
Any ideas?
