I fixed this by adding the following to page.php in between javascript tags
(note: you do need to install jquery into your website)
(function(){
$(‘a[rel=”lightbox”]’).attr(“rel”,”lightbox[menus]”);
})();
but you have to label rel=”lightbox” for all the links which popup
