I’ve had a closer look at this and in my case this is caused by the crawler not re-reading the sitemap. It reports 404 errors for URLs that were actually removed from the sitemap but still in some buffer.
When asking webmaster tools for the referring pages, it reports an XML and when I opened the XML, it did not contain the URL anymore.
I don’t know if this can be solved by updating the plugin.
I have the same problem. In my case, the 404 urls are from pages that are still in Draft mode.
I suggest to update the plugin code so these pages (and all non-public pages) are excluded from the sitemap.

In reply to: [Google Fonts For WordPress] Last font update finished with status: ErrorI’m sorry I wasn’t clear, but I already installed cURL and it seems to work fine.
No need to build a special version for me, but thank you for your offer anyway.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [Google Fonts For WordPress] Last font update finished with status: ErrorThis plugin needs cURL to work properly otherwise you’ll get ‘an error occurred’ message.
Thank you Tizz. You were a tiny bit faster, I was just about to write this solution:
I took the version 2.0.40 from the backup and wrote it back over the crippled plug-in.
Now website became alive again
Logged in and did an update to 2.0.61. Result: “NextGEN Gallery by Photocrati updated successfully”Everything looks fine. I was pretty worried but I’m happy it’s now resolved.
