OK great – thanks. I guess I was wondering where the tablepress table data is stored, in order that I could get a cron job to update it.
HI Tobias,
Thanks for the reply. I normally use the auto import to refresh tables daily. Using auto-import for these 200 new tables would still require me to individually enter each URL – which is still going to be rather laborious.
I’m slightly concerned you say 200 is a big number already. Seems like I need to take your advice and move to a server cron job. If we have, say 1000 tables to auto-import from various S3 buckets, what would a server cron job look like/need to do? (Please forgive my ignorance).
I tried a bulk upload as a zip file but I get the error “Error: Import of ZIP files is not available on this server”
Thanks for your help,
Joe
Hi Tobias,
Yes you are right – for some reason the last column of the first three rows are empty. That must be the reason. We’ll update the script and try again!
Thanks for your help,
Joe
I just posted the link but it has been held back for manual moderation…

UPDATE – you are correct there is now only one problematic table. (as described above). The other three went wrong because some cells were blank. The script now enters a ‘-‘ and that seems to have fixed them. (Sorry for the confusion).
So just #4 table to fix now – but that seems to be a different issue.
This is important to us because we plan to roll this out across a lot of other pages.
Hi Tobias,
Thanks for that. Formatting isnt the issue I have a problem with. The problem is that cell contents are being incorrectly allocated in the table. I will indeed manage the column widths and turn these verbose URLs into hyperlinked text. Sorry I have allowed that to cloud the issue. I am not actually bothered the tables have extended to the right. All this i will fix.
To illustrate the misallocation of cell contents:
If you take the fourth table on the page, the first column heading should be “Diodes for ICT applications” however this text has been split across FOUR columns rather than just one. The fourth column heading actually contains some or all of FIVE headings. And the remaining column headings are all divided across columns 50/50, except the last one.So in short, whilst it looks fine in Excel, TP is not correctly understanding where the cell boundaries are.
I think would probably help if you looked at the raw CSV file.
Hi Tobias,
The tables are all messed up. Too much data in some cells. Many other cells empty etc.
You can see the results here:
https://ppmpower.co.uk/abb-test-page/What confuses me is that 18 tables are generated by the same script and imported in the same way from the same source. Yet 14 are fine and 4 are not?
The tables are set to auto-import the CSV files (by URL) from an S3 bucket. (But the initial, manual upload was the same – so it isnt related to the import I think).
I can send you the URL of the S3 bucket where all 18 CSV files live, or individual CSV files – they are only a few KB each.
Thanks for your help,
Joe
Hi Tobias,
You were indeed correct. The web hosting company changed the max_input_vars limit from 1000 to 5000 and the auto-import configuration is now accepted.
The next challenge is for the auto update to run, which it isnt. I think this is a server caching issue. When they installed LiteSpeed I realised I had to re-save any page for any updated table to display. I’ll keep you informed! π
Thanks for your help,
Joe
Hi Tobias,
Yes I am indeed using the Save Auto Import Configuration button. I updated TP and I checked I am using the latest version of WP.
I just manually replaced the table from the same URL – so I can even “update” the table manually.
UPDATE: The Save Auto Import Configuration button seems to just want to do a manual import (as you suggest). If I complete the manual fields but then press Save Auto Import Configuration button – the table updates (manually). Is the button configured correctly?
Otherwise, how can I achieve an auto-update of tables?
