also, I’m using IIS 6 and I’ve tried http://www.keyboardface.com/IIS-Permalinks/ to no avail.

oh and I also updated the index.php file in the root of the site to: require(‘wp-blog-header.php’); instead of require(‘./wp-blog-header.php’);
That didn’t change anything at all.
