After your reply, I searched for a way to get the blog page to point to the homepage, and found this: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/blog-posts-on-home-page-and-separate-blog-page?replies=9
The last reply has instructions for a workaround to get both pages to show latest posts. You download a plugin, point the blog page to the homepage via the homepage’s URL, and viola! Worked beautifully.
