    only that they could not open it. Still, any reason why is it (and all subsequent attempts for more than a week) are being interpreted as a virus laden file? If I can’t get it to transfer then ftp is useless.

    Unable to locate a reference for validation testing of WP database without potential of alteration. Found multiple optimizers, including
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-optimize/

    but all of the database backups have aged out and been deleted. The only ones I can see are reported corrupt I dare not attempt an operation that could literally wipe out the site and the three years of work that went in to it.

    Any idea what to do or whom to ask?

    Sorry for the delay. I obtained another gz file from someone not connected to any of my sources. It uploaded fine invalidating the hypothesis that all .gz files were being rejected.

    According to Powweb they tried to open the uploaded -db.gz file and it was malformed. I see these options:

    a) The WP database is corrupt and the -db.gz file is an authentic representation being reported as virus laden. I don’t know how to test the WP database for integrity.

    b) The WP database is NOT corrupt and the -db.gz file is malforming it. I don’t know how to test the WP database for integrity.

    As others use the UD software I would hope a program error would have been caught by other people who would notify you. On the other hand some users of WordPress are not technically inclined. They may be assuming that everything is fine, not checking logs or have even turned on success notification.

    I see the next step to validate the underlying database. I add and edit material often. The site appears to work, but that may not enough. It will answer the valid or not question.

    I’ll work on that and post again.

    the -db.gz from 11/12 is a different size than 11/11, but gets the same treatment. Can you send to me a small anything.gz file to test? I wonder if they blocked .gz files all together? thx

    I appreciate your reply.

    The other files are being transferred via your excellent wp plug-in.

    There are two possibilities:

    a) something in the sending code is mis-interpreting something.
    b) the receiver does a virus scan right before issuing an “operation not permitted” and abending.

    I renamed the backup-xxxx-db.gz to xx.gz and attempted a manual backup. Failed at the same point. Is it possible the -db.gz is being interpreted as a virus laden file and being (properly) blocked?

    Don’t think it can be disk space. I tried the -db file alone at 1.5MB and got the same error. Other files, such as -uploads are 24MB and upload fine. According to ftp host there were no changes made at there end.

    I changed settings to MANUAL
    to NOT download
    Plugins Themes Uploads Any other directories found inside wp-content

    then did a BACKUP NOW expecting only the backup-xxx-db.gz
    near as I can tell the backup worked. I downloaded the backup file to my local drive.

    The problem appears to be in the ftp code, but the error message is not specific. This is the same host that has been in use since the beginning. Other files are being transferred. Why is the -db.gz file not being transferred? The size of the -db.gz file is 1.5MB. Is is malformed? I am unable to test it.

    Shorter version of log. New version appears to have same problem. I left the window open during a BACKUP NOW. All other files are transferring which appears to validate ftp connectivity.

    It looks like the database is not being allowed to upload per UpDraftPlus. It uploaded for months. Unfortunately ALL previous versions of database have been aged-out. Confidence has dropped.
