In reply to: plugin: Remove Blog Slug for resolving multisite url confusion?@andrea_r Yes, it still works. Here is a post I just made on my development install, which is in a subdirectory of the main blog, using its wp-content directory and database, but a separate install. /optic/ is the root of this multisite installation.

In reply to: Multisite To Single Install Photos Not Showing?Check the urls for the images against the actual file location. Your multisite installation likely used a different directory for your media library.
Once you find the discrepency, you can change the entries in the database using a query, or easier, export and use find/replace to replace the old library urls with the new ones. Just make sure you are accurate with what you find/replace, and keep a copy of the unmodified export file.
If you aren’t comfortable with databases, just go through all your posts and pages, replacing the urls individually.

In reply to: Deciding Whether to StartI’d suggest a test installation in a subdirectory or subdomain as Roy has suggested, or on a local server such as XAMPP.
As WordPress consists of .php files, your index.html file will be used before the index.php of WordPress if you were to try to install alongside your current static files.

In reply to: plugin: Remove Blog Slug for resolving multisite url confusion?You can remove the blog slug completely.
Go into the primary site options in the network admin, and set your permalinks without blog included, to something like /%postname%/. Go back to the permalinks settings in your site’s dashboard, you should notice that /blog is removed from the permalinks. Set them to your desired structure again and save.
This should remove the blog slug from your URLs.

In reply to: Thesis for Multisite?Thesis works great with WordPress Multisite. You need to do some modification to the core Thesis files ( at least with the current version 1.8 ), but it’s fairly painless. I made a video showing how to enable WordPress multisite for domain mapping and modify Thesis for multisite, and gave some basic instructions as well with links to the original articles you need to use for each step.
I also wrote an article about using a master Thesis custom functions file for WordPress multisite.
I hope this is helpful to someone.
This is how I add it using manual mode. I add this to the theme functions file. The hook I use is theme specific, I use Thesis, but I’m sure your theme has a hook somewhere similar.
// YOAST BREADCRUMBS function yoast_crumbs() { if (is_single()) { if ( function_exists('yoast_breadcrumb') ) { yoast_breadcrumb('<p id="breadcrumbs">','</p>'); } } } add_action('thesis_hook_before_headline', 'yoast_crumbs');I’ll do that now, and more once I’ve had some time with it.
I’d like to say that this goes far beyond anything else. Put aside all the robots, sitemaps, breadcrumbs, canonical, etc. The interface it gives clients is absolutely priceless. 15 minutes training a client in how to create an optimized post using the focus keyword will save me hours of cleaning up messes.
Thanks. An epic PEBCAK it was!
