I resolved the issue by reloading WordPress.

Since MichaelH didn’t get back to me I reinstalled WP. True I lost my because the backups didn’t work but the good news was I only had about six posts.
Restored both files and database. Actually I was at 2.3.2 but noticed a message about “files needed to be cleaned up” and somehow I ended up reinstalling the upgrade. That’s when the “maintenance message appeared”.
This plugin doesn’t appear to be working. I’m using the Yourblog 2.0 theme by Abhishek Tripathi. Are there any known fixes? Am I missing something?
