On mine (v 2.9.2) MichaelH solution won’t go past page 4. Try this instead (also suggested by MichaelH in another thread)

Works like a dream!
The “custom post limits” works like a dream.
I had to give in to installing the plugin because I can’t do “previous page”, it always breaks on page 4.
People looking for one post homepage, don’t struggle like I did.
