I don’t know for sure, but my guess is that your old theme was using a different Doctype to the new one you want to use.
Was Tiga XHTML 1.0 Transisitional? Because the one you’re using now has a “Strict” Doctype, which is less forgiving.
It does seem the problems are related to your post content rather than the theme.
