They were working perfectly till today. I added a lot of new pages today and all of a sudden this problem started.

I do the same thing all the time, and I add the <title>…</title>, but when I publish the page the <title>…</title> disappears and the title stays.
I tried deleting pages thinking I was overloaded, but that is not the problem.

solved, I found a good widget, if somebody has any other options, I am open for ideas
