I went to “Users->Authors & Users” and set the user status to “Administrator”; it’s the only username defined in my setup. Is there somewhere else that file permissions might be set?
By the way, I should have mentioned in my OP that I’m really, really green at all this; I had to get my younger brother to help me set up WP.
