thanks, appreviate your hints and could solve the issue at the moment.

 Increasing the PHP memory limit and max execution time in the wp-config.php file helped being able now to add the ‘missing’ galleries via menu rather then shortcode.

Probably anyway, I’ll give WP-Optimize a try.
