Solved now.
Publishing a new sermon after updating to 2.11.3 resulted in it being listed correctly in the sermon series archive page. Comparing with the missing sermons, I noticed that the date wasn’t populated for those ones (as mentioned in a previous post “Sermon Dates Preached not sticking”).
Adding the date to the missing sermons, resulted in the sermons appearing correctly in the archive view. The difference I had to the behaviour mentioned in the above post was that without the date, the sermons weren’t showing at all – not just being shunted to the end of the list.

In case some further clarification is needed: sermons are assigned to the correct series (e.g. see the “1 Samuel” sermons in http://www.chelmsfordpres.org.uk/talks/), but when clicking the series name to view the archive page for the series, the latest sermons don’t appear.
