My WordPress website, http://www.braudits.com, has been hacked. I know that hacking can take many forms, so allow me to explain exactly what’s going on, in detail.

On my laptop, when I logon to my website, for a moment I can see the top third of my Home Page, but then it disappears and the page is blank and remains so. My address simultaneously changes from the above to a series of numbers and letters.

On my iPhone 6, when I use the Safari app and select my website from my favourites list, again for a brief moment I can see my Home Page but then it very quickly morphs into a cornucopia of advertising. Sometimes I get a notice informing me that I’ve won some prize or other.

When I switch from Safari to Firefox it gets worse! Instead of the blank page, I get a blue page with text that strongly suggests that I use the telephone number to call Windows (something, or other) or all hell is going to break loose with my financial data etc. There is also a drop down demanding my username and password.

Last night I found two unwanted Users on my site, which I removed. I downloaded a three different security plugins and scanned my site and set up a firewall. I then checked my website on both devices and everything seemed back to normal.

This morning it’s back. What can I do?

I have marked this topic as ‘Resolved’, as I have not received any Spam since I made a couple of changes five days ago. (I hope I’m not premature in this assumption)

As advised in the above post, I turned off “Allow new user registration’ or the equivalent in my site, ‘Membership (Anyone can Register)’. Then after reading one of the links, I checked the plug ins only to find a couple of rogues in there, which someone had planted. I deleted them and now I always make sure that I log out every time I leave the Dashboard. (Guilty of NOT always doing this!)

    Thanks for your help!

    Cheers, Derek S.

    @amercine:

    Thanks for this information.

However, most of the information contained within these links is too advanced for me to handle. Nor, frankly, do I have the time to review this amount of copy

I was looking for, and hoping for, a reasonably simple solution to my hacking problem.

I’m still receiving ‘New User Registration’ notifications along with the attendant blogs (many in Polish).

Question: Are there any simple solutions to this problem? If so, then what are they?

    Cheers, Derek S.

If you only knew the vortex of blind panic that i fell into.

Anyway…it’s gone and everything seems OK in my world.

    Many thanks!

    Christine: Now…I must declare that I’m a total novice when it comes to code. I followed your instructions: went to my index.php file; cut <?php the_content(__(‘Continue reading’,’panorama’) . ‘ ” . get_the_title(”, ”, false) . ”»’); ?> ; pasted <?php the_content(__(‘Read more’,’panorama’); ?>

And now…my website is down. when I try to logon, I get this…
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING in /nas01/HostingVol1/02/45402/acornbbs.com/dac_wordpress/wp-content/themes/panorama/index.php on line 25

I need this website and I need you help! Please!!!

    Christine…thank you! I appreciate it!

Hi Christine…and thanks you! I really should have been able to figure that one out on my own, don’t ya think?

One other point…this gives me the following wording art the More break…”Continue reading” then the blog post title, such as ‘Are You Guilty of “Social NOTworking”?, which can be quite lengthy. Such as “Continue reading ‘Are You Guilty of “Social NOTworking”?”

I favoutr the simple “Read More” link. Is there a way I can achieve this?

    Would appreciate it!

I deactivated all of my plug-ins and activated the Jetpack plug-in, but still got the Fatal Error message. Pity!

Jetpack has been working on my site for six months, then this????

No…I haven’t tried any of those. I’ll give it a shot and get back.

    alchymyth:

I’m having a bit of a problem understanding all of this. I’m not as advanced as you apparently are at this.

One aspect that may be causing this problem is likely something that I’ve done wrong, or not done at all! Perhaps it’s some settings that I’ve not implemented properly, such as %post_title% | %blog_title%. Should I remove one of these options? Likewise with the other options: %page_title% | %blog_title% : %category_title% | %blog_title% : %term% | %blog_title% : %date% | %blog_title% : %tag% | %blog_title% : %search% | %blog_title% and so on. Should I have elininated one of each of these options?

When you say…”seems to be related to SEO Platinum”…is that because you have also incurred this problem?

alchymyth: Thanks for your response. Yes…I checked under “View Source” and under ‘Meta Description’ and the seo plug-in is Platinum SEO, which was the first one I installed. So…based upon what you say, I should deactivate the others (SEO Ultimate and Yoast WP SEO) and just run with Platinum. Yes???

    (@hurricane1)

    OK…that’s done. Thank you Esmi!

How do I delete it? Without affecting my current website?
