In reply to: permalink problemtried a few file permission changes with no success, put them all back and ended up with 500 internal server error, only way to get dashboard back was to delete htaccess file from wp-admin folder. Dashboard is now back, now cannot insert .htaccess file to wp-admin without causing 500 error and loosing dashboard.

Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: No .htaccess file in 3.1managed to get a .htaccess file in the directory it caused a 500 internal server error which meant blog was down and no access to dashboard. Made an enquiry with my server as its now Monday and they are looking into it so it may be a problem at their end.
Just wanted to update the post in case this is an issue someone may be familiar with and can offer advice.
Manny thanks

In reply to: WordPress didn't return a vaild pathHi Jonas
I put the .htaccess file in mydomain/blog its where all the wp directories and files are.
I have tried updating the permalink options it produced some code to copy & paste onto the .htaccess file, I suppose because it could not write to it itself. Obviously I cannot paste it because there is no .htaccess file.
The permalinks option to default/%postname%/ did not work because of this and I had to revert back to default.

In reply to: WordPress didn't return a vaild pathboth .htaccess file and admin/index on 644 (still owner only can write no group or public write permission) All others on 755

In reply to: WordPress didn't return a vaild pathHi Jonas
I do have full access to the root. The file permission at present is Owner only can write, if I change to group or public permission am I at risk from unwelcome visitors.
Thank you for your patience.
