Thank You, It worked, I unzipped the w3 total cache folder and uploaded the unzipped plugin to the /wp-content/plugins directory.
I had to remove 3 files from the root but my site’s /wp-admin dashboard is now available.
no joy, renamed /plugins to /old-plugins
still no access to the dashboard yet.
perhaps it’s a Thesis problem and not a WP problem.

O wondered about upzipping, so it IS possible to unzip on my computer and upload the entire (already unzipped) folder via FTP
I now know more about FTP than I did a half hour ago, thanks
