don’t worry. I made my own copy of Twenty Ten, and made some changes in style.css there.
Do you consider that as a child theme, or does child theme mean something else?

Looking at your site now, it looks like you’ve solved your problem. My problem is similar: in IE(8), I don’t see any submenu’s (defined with twenty-ten’s menu structure), nor do I see the background color change when I hover over the menu items. Does anyone have a solution?
