Just to be clear, the permalinks work fine in the /wp/ folder.
When the site address is changed to http://www.sectioneighty.com , permalinks break unless /wp/%postname%/ is set.
But then that leaves /wp/ in all my URLs.

Yup that’s all I want.
I ran the instructions for moving the wordpress to a different folder (http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory) and we had a broken uploader, as well as broken permalinks.
The instructions were followed to the dot, not sure if its different for nginx or something.
