In reply to: what circumstances add '-2' to a slugOh well, such is life.
I’m sufficiently grateful for what WP can do, to no longer get too-bothered about what it can’t.

In reply to: what circumstances add '-2' to a slugThanks, Esmi.
In my original post I incorrectly used ‘posts’ rather than ‘pages’… it should have read ‘seems to do it with PAGES which begin with a number’.
A further search suggests it’s ok to have posts with a numeric slug, but not pages – hence the appending of -2.

I’m sorry for not answering your earlier reply – lost in my to-do backlog.

In reply to: [Zajax - Ajax Navigation] Disable ajaz load for some linksThanks.
This’ll be useful for me, because currently the feed link displays blank… neither the xml nor triggering the browser to open it with a newsreader/helper app.

In reply to: [Zajax - Ajax Navigation] Conflict betweem zajax and contact form 7I have what I think may be a similar issue… the Ajax error/success messages load and then quickly vanish. It’s also possible to submit a blank form, minus the required fields.
Gino, the developer, has been very helpful but wasn’t able to provide a fix.
My temporary work-around was to create a page containing just the contact form, and load that page into an iframe on my contact page. That allows the form to work properly.
Some other forms behave properly, and may be a good replacement.
You may also want to check if your 404 page works… in my install it doesn’t, and is replaced by a Zajax error message.
Also, I’ve noticed my feed page doesn’t display… just a blank where the replaced div should be, and doesn’t show the xml or trigger the link to open in a newsreader/other app. My temporary workaround is to link to my Feedburner feed, rather than the onsite one.
Overall, the advantages of Zajax outweigh these negatives… but it’ll be nice to not have them.

In reply to: Incorrect 404>@tsure
Thanks.
Sorry the error was mine… ‘screen blindness’ in not noticing that the browser had auto-completed the url to an earlier one which was minus the appropriate path to the WP install (which I use for tests of new code, plugins, etc) and hence triggering the non-WP 404.
With better glasses, and more careful attention, I should be ok. 😉

In reply to: Title outside loop.>Please check once again.
Thanks.
A re-check shows ‘<?php the_title(); ?>’ before ‘<?php if (have_posts()) : while (have_posts()) : the_post(); ?>’ on a page using a custom template.
I’m bemused (unless that Codex info is out of date).
UPDATE: This explains why it displays.

That helps me to better understand.Thanks.
Can I please come back to you in a day-or-two on this?CPs are new to me, and I’m currently struggling to grasp the topic sufficiently well to be able to ask sensiblelquestions rather than babbling like a helpless idiot.

In reply to: Custom posts, and permalinks, etcetera.Thanks.
I wish this forum allowed me to try to contact you to ask about hiring you to sort some stuff for me, but having read ‘requesting paid help is discouraged’ I’ll respect that. Pity.
